The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the World’s leading youth achievement award, operating in over 140 countries and territories around the globe.

Taking part in the Award offers young people formal recognition for their achievements and is seen by many educational institutions and employers as a valuable development programme that equips young people with practical and social skills.

The Award involves individual challenge. It offers young people the opportunity to set a personal goal and achieve it. It presents to young people a balanced, non-competitive programme of voluntary activities which encourages personal discovery and growth, self-reliance, perseverance, responsibility to themselves, trust and service to their community.

Currently, the Bronze Award is offered in Year 10 and the Silver Award is offered in Year 12. Both awards involve students hiking and camping in northern Italy, whilst also carrying out a skill, physical recreation, and volunteering activity for a set period of time ranging from 6-12 months.
